About Elizabeth

…the me behind the words…

My Ink-Stained Snapshot

Born and raised in the South, I now live in Wisconsin and love it—except for the fifteen months of winter.

When I’m not teaching or writing—

Who am I kidding? My husband and five kids say I’m ALWAYS teaching or writing. I majored in elementary education (K-9th grade) with a concentration in English/Language Arts and later earned a certificate from the Institute of Children’s Literature. And, yes, I’d rather write than sleep.

But I also love reading, singing, creating art, wearing flip-flops, playing with my golden retrievers, and just trying to stay ahead of the stories in my brain.

And the elephant in the room: How do you say my name?

Well, Elizabeth isn’t that hard (wink), but Daghfal?

  • Ignore the actual [h] because it’s silent, and
  • Say [ah] like you’re at the doctor. [DAHG-fahl].

Some other quirks characteristics about me?

  • I fall asleep in movies but can stay awake all night writing.
  • I struggle with shyness: Once a guy asked me, “You haven’t said a word all night. Are you mute?” Try to think of something to say after THAT! Anything! But if you meet me in a situation where I’m supposed to be leading, you might mistakenly think I’m an extreme extrovert.
  • I love to teach, act, and direct plays, but I also play the violin and twirl a mean marching band rifle—something that has surprisingly come in handy in teaching Sunday School and women’s Bible studies.
  • I’ve written no less than three plays parodying VeggieTales songs from the perspective of women (“We are the moms of wrath! We make you take a bath…”).
  • I have a *slight* addiction to the Great British Baking Show and bake alongalthough I never manage to make the recipes in the allotted time. (Oh, well. They’re still yummy! Check out my Kek Lapis Sarawak on Instagram.)
  • And on any given day when I’m not running for my kids or teaching at school or church, you can probably find me at McDonalds with a large Diet Coke and my computer. (I actually wrote an entire novel between there and Starbucks.
